NEAR Intents Hit by $3.8M Exploit via Omni Bridge Bug
NEAR Intents, a cross-chain swap service on NEAR Protocol, was hit by an attacker who exploited a bug in its Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure. The incident resulted in a loss of approximately $3.8 million on October 1, 2026.
The team quickly responded to the situation, halting services and patching the contract-side flaw. NEAR Intents promised to compensate affected users in full.
The bug was found in the handoff between Omni and the NEAR Intents smart contract, but it did not affect the base layer of NEAR Protocol. The team said that users holding assets from certain chains inside NEAR Intents would not need to move anything, as they would be able to swap their holdings once services resume.
On-chain investigator ZachXBT reported that the stolen funds were sent to the KuCoin exchange and then bridged to Bitcoin. NEAR Intents has reported the incident to law enforcement and is working with security partners to trace the funds and pursue recovery.
