NEAR Intents Recovers Stolen Funds After Cross-Chain Exploit
A recent security incident on NEAR Intents, an intent-based cross-chain trading infrastructure, resulted in the loss of $3.8 million in USDT from a vault on BNB Chain.
The bug occurred between the Omni deposit/withdrawal infrastructure and smart contracts on BNB Chain, forcing NEAR Intents to pause operations and patch the vulnerability within one hour.
A preliminary investigation found that approximately 76% of the stolen funds were converted into Bitcoin and distributed across four wallets, while the remaining $802,000 went into KuCoin deposit addresses and nearly $90,000 was recorded in a Monero-linked asset on Hyperliquid.
All $3.8 million was returned to NEAR Intents before the 48-hour deadline set by the project's general manager, Alex Shevchenko.
