NEAR Protocol Switches to Default Privacy Mode
The blockchain platform NEAR Protocol has made a significant change to its operations by transitioning to a default privacy mode for all transactions on the network. This means that details of deals such as balances, deposits, swaps, yields, and user payments are now automatically hidden thanks to the implementation of the Confidential Intents mechanism.
The new default account is the Confidential Account, and users can no longer revert to the previous mode. However, support for multiple access keys is currently in development, and deposits to old addresses remain possible, such assets will be labeled as Legacy assets.
The reason behind this change was the high activity of MEV bots on the network, which prompted the NEAR Protocol team to implement the privacy mode. According to NEAR Protocol, in July 2026, the share of confidential operations reached about 42% of the total trading volume on the network.
