NEAR Protocol's cross-chain infrastructure, Intents, has been targeted in an exploit that drained $3.8 million from the ecosystem.

The incident exposed a flaw in the transaction validation logic for cross-chain operations and caused the NEAR token to drop 9% immediately after the news broke.

While the team deployed a patch shortly after detecting the issue, the fact that such a significant vulnerability existed raises questions about the robustness of their security audits.

The incident is reminiscent of similar exploits on protocols like Ronin and Wormhole, but at a much larger scale for NEAR. The challenge now is to rebuild trust among developers and users who rely on Intents to power decentralized applications.
