Netlist Stock Jumps 13% on $600M Micron Patent Deal
Netlist, Inc. (NLST) saw its stock jump 13.10% to $6.39 after striking a major deal with Micron Technology. The agreement includes a five-year $600 million patent license, quarterly payments starting in Q4 2026, and a settlement of all pending legal disputes between the two companies. Micron will also take an equity stake in Netlist, purchasing 10 million shares for $1 million.
The deal grants Micron a worldwide license to Netlist’s patent portfolio, covering server DIMMs and High Bandwidth Memory technologies. These patents are critical for advanced memory systems used in data centers and AI infrastructure. Under the agreement, Micron will pay Netlist $30 million every quarter from Q4 2026 through Q3 2031, totaling $600 million over the five-year period.
In addition to the licensing deal, Netlist and Micron have settled all outstanding patent litigation, effectively ending years of legal battles. The settlement removes the uncertainty and costs associated with ongoing court proceedings. Netlist has long focused on defending and licensing its patents related to advanced memory technologies, making this agreement a significant milestone.
Micron’s equity stake in Netlist adds another layer to their partnership. The transaction involves the purchase of 10 million Netlist shares for $1 million, with a five-year lock-up period limiting Micron’s ability to sell the shares. This move could foster long-term alignment between the two companies as they navigate their new licensing framework.
