Newcastle United Activates Release Clause for Lukas Hornicek
Newcastle United is poised to sign SC Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek for €30 million, approximately £25.7 million, after triggering his release clause.
Hornicek, a 24-year-old Czech international, has become one of the more reliable keepers in Portugal's top flight since joining Braga permanently in 2020 from Pardubice.
The deal is said to be all but done, with Braga withdrawing Hornicek from their UEFA Conference League squad last month. This suggests that a formal transfer agreement is imminent.
Newcastle United's investment in the goalkeeping position represents a significant move under its ambitious Saudi-backed ownership. The club has also maintained a sponsorship with crypto exchange BYDFi since 2025, highlighting ties to the digital asset industry.
