NIGHT Surges 29% as WallStreetBets Founder Highlights Crypto's Privacy Problem
The price of NIGHT, the native token of Cardano's sidechain Midnight, has surged by 29% in the past 24 hours, reaching an intraday high of $0.04334. This comes as WallStreetBets founder Jaime Rogozinski highlighted the importance of privacy in cryptocurrency's broader institutional adoption.
Rogozinski argued that institutions may require ways to conduct blockchain transactions without exposing sensitive financial activity on public ledgers, and that privacy will play a crucial role in crypto's scaling. He emphasized that institutions may not want their trading activity, balances, or transaction relationships to remain visible to anyone using a blockchain explorer.
Night's stronger performance appears to be tied more closely to developments and renewed attention surrounding the Midnight ecosystem rather than a broad rally across privacy tokens. Other major privacy-focused cryptocurrencies, such as Zcash and Monero, have posted more modest gains of around 2% to 5% over the same period.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson recently forecasted that Midnight could be bigger than Zcash, citing its private smart contracts, selective disclosure, private agents, and DeFi infrastructure designed to support major blockchain networks. He specifically identified 2027 as a potentially significant period for Midnight's growth.
