NIGHT's Unshielded Approach to Privacy Challenges Zcash
NIGHT, a token linked to the Cardano ecosystem, has been gaining attention for its unique approach to privacy. Unlike Zcash, which focuses on private digital money, NIGHT remains unshielded while generating shielded DUST for transactions and contracts.
This distinction is key, as NIGHT's model connects an unshielded asset to shielded network usage and programmable applications. For ADA holders, the link extends beyond market commentary, as Midnight has direct structural links to the Cardano ecosystem.
The connection between NIGHT and Cardano includes the Glacier Drop, which allocated 50% to eligible Cardano participants and 20% to Bitcoin participants. Midnight's documentation also states that cNIGHT held on Cardano can generate DUST for use on the network.
Fireblocks supports custody for NIGHT, and Monument Bank targets £250 million in tokenized, interest-generating retail deposits on Midnight. Permissionless smart contract deployment is live on the mainnet, allowing developers to deploy contracts without a mandatory Preprod review.
