Nike Appoints Bernard Arnault's Son to Board Amidst Challenging Market
Alexandre Arnault, son of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton CEO Bernard Arnault, has joined Nike's board of directors. The appointment was confirmed by Nike on Wednesday, with Executive Chairman Mark Parker highlighting Alexandre's experience in helping iconic brands evolve and innovate.
Parker pointed to Alexandre's record at well-known companies such as RIMOWA, Tiffany & Co., and LVMH. He noted that the younger Arnault has expertise in digital transformation and brand building. Alexandre has also been an early adopter of Web3 technology, having turned his CryptoPunk into a diamond pendant with Tiffany in 2022.
The appointment comes at a challenging time for Nike, with its stock near a 12-year low after a significant decline over the past year. CEO Elliott Hill has been focusing on reducing non-core costs and prioritizing physical products and wholesale partners over digital collectibles. Despite this, Alexandre expressed his excitement to join Nike's board and contribute to the brand's future.
