Ninepoint Launches US Energy ETF Amid Growing Power Struggles
Ninepoint Partners has launched its first U.S.-listed fund, the Ninepoint North American Energy Independence ETF (ENRG), which aggregates companies involved in oil and gas production, pipelines, nuclear energy, and key minerals. The ETF aims to capitalize on the strong energy links between Canada and the U.S., despite current trade tensions.
According to co-CEO John Wilson, 'the dependence of nations on energy across their borders has been in place long before one government came into power, and it will not be removed due to the change of political powers.'
The ETF's portfolio covers various aspects of energy supply, transport infrastructure, nuclear energy, and electrification inputs, including copper and critical minerals. The fund charges an expense ratio of 0.65% and has a focus in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S., with up to 10% of its investments allowed outside North America.
The launch of ENRG coincides with the growing issue of access to power for cryptocurrency miners. As data centers continue to consume increasing amounts of electricity, grid connections and approved mining locations are becoming increasingly scarce, pushing some miners to consider alternatives such as artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC).
