North Korea-Linked Hackers Steal $387.5M from Bitget Exchange
Bitget, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world with over 120 million users, has been hit by a major hack. According to the exchange's CEO Gracy Chen, hackers suspected to be linked to North Korea stole more than $380 million from Bitget's hot wallets on Thursday, September 24.
The affected amount has increased to $387.5 million from an initial reported $351.6 million. Chen states that customer 'account balances are accurate and your assets are protected.' Customer withdrawals have been paused as a precautionary measure while the exchange conducts a security review.
Bitget claims to have called in on-chain security firms, which have found that the attack is consistent with techniques used by DPRK-linked hacker groups. The FBI has previously linked North Korea to last year's $1.5 billion hack on crypto exchange Bybit.
