North Korea-linked Hackers Steal Millions in Cryptocurrency from Global IT Engineers
North Korean hackers have been linked to attacks on IT engineers in over 100 countries and regions, including Japan. The cyberattacks resulted in the theft of cryptocurrency assets worth at least $10.9 million.
According to Kyodo News, Japanese authorities uncovered a method used by hackers to remotely control devices belonging to supporters in Japan, allowing them to obtain foreign currency.
The attacks began with fake job postings on job-search websites and other resources from December 2025 until approximately July of this year. Over 30,000 devices were infected, resulting in the theft of more than 7,000 cryptocurrency assets.
