North Korea Pushes Past $1 Billion in Crypto Hacks
A recent hack of the crypto exchange Bitget has pushed North Korea's total haul from digital-asset thefts above $1 billion this year. The hack, which occurred on September 24, saw $357 million (RM 1.46 billion) stolen.
The analytics firm Elliptic Enterprises Ltd. believes that the hack was likely carried out by North Korea-linked hackers due to similarities with previous attacks attributed to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The stolen crypto was moved and laundered in a way that is consistent with previous North Korean hacks, according to Elliptic. Some of the funds were also connected to addresses tied to earlier hacks, including the record-setting $1.5 billion (RM 6.12 billion) exploit of crypto exchange Bybit last year.
