North Korea Sought? Bitget Hacked for $351.6 Million
Bitget, a major cryptocurrency exchange, suffered an overnight hack that resulted in losses of $351.6 million.
The attackers compromised a backend system within Bitget's wallet infrastructure, allowing them to spoof transaction data and trick the exchange's own authorization process into approving transfers.
According to CEO Gracy Chen, private keys were not stolen, ruling out one of the most damaging types of hacks. The breach was detected on September 24 at 18:31 UTC, and Bitget stopped the unauthorized transfers once they were discovered.
An investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings point to North Korea as the possible perpetrator. Chen stated that IP addresses matching VPN services used by a known North Korean hacking group were found during the investigation.
