North Korean Hackers Behind $387 Million Bitget Hack
The $387 million hack of cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has been attributed to North Korean actors by blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.
Chainalysis used its in-house artificial intelligence to accelerate the investigation, cutting the time it took to complete a bridge reconciliation task from over 20 hours to under 10 minutes.
The AI tool helped investigators connect fragmented transaction trails that appeared unrelated when viewed on separate networks, ultimately tracing the stolen funds to attacker-controlled Bitcoin addresses.
The hack occurred on September 24, with Bitget detecting unauthorized transfers originating from its hot and warm wallet infrastructure.
Bitget offered 5% rewards for information leading to frozen assets and successful recovery, with Circle and Tether freezing around $318,000 in linked USDC and USDT by September 26.
