North Korean Hackers Steal $10.9 Million in Cryptocurrency via Fake Job Listings
A sophisticated hacking scheme linked to North Korea has stolen at least $10.9 million worth of cryptocurrency assets from engineers in over 100 countries and regions, including Japan.
The cyber operation, which lasted from December 2025 until around July 2026, involved fake job listings on employment websites and other online platforms that tricked IT professionals into installing malicious software.
Japanese law enforcement determined that the attackers posted over 7,000 cryptocurrency assets on infected devices located in Japan for operations related to obtaining foreign currency.
The investigation, conducted jointly with representatives of the United States, Australia, and Germany, revealed that the stolen funds ultimately flowed to North Korea.
