North Korean Hackers Strike Again, Stealing Over $387 Million from Bitget

Share

Crypto theft by North Korea has reached alarming levels, surpassing $1 billion in 2026 alone. The latest figure is due to a major attack on Bitget, which resulted in losses of over $387 million.

The attackers exploited a critical backend system within the wallet infrastructure, spoofed transaction data, and triggered the platform's authorization process to move funds. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen stated that private keys were not stolen, ruling out a more severe risk scenario.

The incident is highly consistent with known patterns of North Korean hacker organizations, according to Chen. Blockchain analytics firm Elliptic assessed the incident as highly likely linked to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, citing similarities in fund movement and laundering techniques.
