Norway and UAE Boost Sovereign Wealth Funds' Exposure to Bitcoin

Norway and the UAE are increasing their sovereign wealth funds' exposure to Bitcoin.

The Government Pension Fund Global, Norway's state-owned fund, has boosted its holdings of MSTR stock, which indirectly tracks the price of BTC. The fund now holds a total of 11,549 BTC, worth about $725 million at press time.

This represents an increase of 21.2% in H1 2026 and 60.5% in the past year.

The UAE's Abu Dhabi sovereign funds have also increased their holdings of BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF (IBIT), with a combined total of $764 million invested.

This trend suggests that institutions are increasingly adopting indirect ways to invest in Bitcoin, such as buying shares in companies like MSTR or holding ETFs like IBIT. This approach eliminates some of the compliance and operational difficulties associated with direct BTC holdings.
