NSA Shifts Stance on CLARITY Act Ahead of Senate Vote
The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) has reversed its stance on the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, shifting from opposition to a neutral position. In a letter to Senate leaders, the NSA cited the significant work done by Congress and stakeholders in navigating the complex issues surrounding the bill.
The CLARITY Act, passed by the US House of Representatives in July 2025, aims to establish a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency market structures. However, the NSA had previously expressed concerns about amendments that exempted crypto mixers from registration requirements, potentially impairing law enforcement's ability to trace transactions and recover victims' funds.
The NSA's change in position comes ahead of a cloture vote on the bill, scheduled for September 15. Despite this development, concerns remain among lawmakers and interest groups about aspects of the legislation, including stablecoin rewards and potential conflicts of interest from President Donald Trump and his family.
