NY and WY Link Crypto Regs with Expedited Review Deal
New York and Wyoming have reached an agreement to link their separate crypto regulatory systems. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) between New York's Department of Financial Services and Wyoming's Division of Banking aims to strengthen oversight while supporting responsible market development across the two jurisdictions.
The MOU allows for expedited review of applications from companies operating in both states, provided they have at least three years of regulated operations under their existing regulator. The reviewing authority will endeavor to reach a final decision within six months of the application date or receipt of historical examination information, whichever is later.
Joint examinations and investigative exchanges between regulators are also part of the agreement, which covers oversight of digital asset activities involving businesses operating in either jurisdiction. This includes exchanging cryptocurrency, trading digital assets for other assets, or traditional money.
According to New York State Department of Financial Services Acting Superintendent Kaitlin Asrow, 'This MOU will add to the resources and information available to each regulator, helping to facilitate responsible innovation in the market while protecting consumers across our respective jurisdictions.'
