NYDFS and Wyoming Cooperate on Crypto Regulation
Financial regulators in New York and Wyoming have signed an MOU to cooperate on supervising cryptocurrency companies. The agreement, announced by Cointelegraph, covers licensing, examinations, and enforcement actions for crypto firms operating across both states.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) and the Wyoming Division of Banking aims to streamline applications and reduce supervisory procedures. Companies already regulated in one state will have access to an expedited review track for entry into the other state, with a goal of completing reviews within six months.
The agreement also covers coordination in supervision and enforcement, including sharing supervisory reports, market trend data, and notification systems related to potential enforcement actions. This cooperation is seen as significant, linking two states with different approaches to crypto regulation - New York's strict BitLicense system and Wyoming's more accommodating laws and regulations.
The MOU does not change the existing regulatory frameworks in either state, but it marks a shift towards treating the review and examination process for crypto firms operating across both jurisdictions as a single continuum. This development is being closely watched for its potential to impact the crypto industry.
