NYDFS, Wyoming Regulators Team Up on Crypto Oversight
New York's Department of Financial Services and Wyoming's Division of Banking have signed a memorandum of understanding to coordinate oversight of virtual currency and digital asset firms.
The agreement, announced on October 1, 2026, allows the two regulators to share licensing and chartering reviews, joint examinations, supervisory reports, and enforcement notifications to streamline applications and bolster consumer protection.
The pact pairs New York's BitLicense supervisory standards with Wyoming's crypto-friendly chartering and recent Chainlink proof-of-reserve stablecoin work, providing greater regulatory clarity for crypto firms, token launches, DeFi, and CEX operations.
New York Acting Superintendent Kaitlin Asrow framed the deal as a consumer-protection measure, saying 'Interstate collaboration is essential for the virtual currency space. This MOU will add to the resources and information available to each regulator, helping to facilitate responsible innovation in the market while protecting consumers across our respective jurisdictions.'
