NYSE Launches Blockchain-Powered Infrastructure for Tokenized Securities Trading

Share

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has launched a blockchain-powered infrastructure to enable the trading and settlement of tokenized securities. The platform, developed in collaboration with Intercontinental Exchange, combines NYSE's Pillar matching engine with distributed ledger technology for post-trade processing.

According to NYSE President Lynn Martin, the exchange participated in the Depository Trust Company's (DTCC) tokenization pilot program alongside leading financial institutions such as BlackRock and Goldman Sachs. The pilot successfully executed live production transactions on July 15, transforming DTC-held securities into tokenized formats for utilization in actual transactions.

The new infrastructure aims to introduce atomic settlement capabilities, synchronizing trade execution with immediate ownership transfer. It will also enable continuous trading operations, stablecoin payment options, and compatibility with various blockchain protocols. While traditional banking infrastructure remains inactive during weekends, stablecoin networks maintain constant availability.
