NYSE Parent ICE Moves to Tokenize 63 U.S. Stocks with OKX

The New York Stock Exchange’s parent company, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), has taken a major step into the crypto world by filing to tokenize 63 prominent U.S. stocks on a crypto-native exchange. The joint venture, OKXICE, is a partnership between ICE and OKX, and it has already received permission from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the Innovation Exemption program.

The filing, submitted on October 5, 2026, allows for the tokenization of stocks from companies like Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, JPMorgan, Walmart, Coca-Cola, Cisco, and McDonald’s. These tokenized equities will trade 24/7 on OKX’s layer-2 blockchain network, X Layer, with liquidity provided through permissioned pools built on Uniswap v4’s architecture. Each token is backed one-for-one by the underlying share, held in custody, and carries the same dividend and voting rights as the original shares.

A unique aspect of this venture is the opt-out structure. Listed companies have 30 days to object to the tokenization of their stock. If they do not object, their shares become available for trading on OKXICE. This reverses the traditional listing dynamic, placing the burden on the issuer to opt out rather than opt in.

The OKXICE venture is part of a broader institutional migration towards tokenized assets. The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) launched its tokenization service in October 2026, processing transactions for firms like BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan. However, the trust gap remains a structural risk, as only 29.2 percent of top tokenized assets meet rigorous cryptographic transparency standards. OKXICE aims to address this with its one-for-one custody model and permissioned liquidity architecture, though independent attestations of custodial holdings and on-chain settlement mechanics have not yet been published.
