NZD Weakens Amid Fed Hike Bets and Iran Tensions
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) is trading lower against its US counterpart on Monday, weighed down by market expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike and ongoing tensions between the US and Iran.
According to recent data, the NZD/USD pair currently trades near 0.5870, down around 0.15% for the day, with spot prices remaining within Friday's broader range.
Brown Brothers Harriman’s Elias Haddad notes that while the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) raised its official cash rate to 2.75%, the tone of the statement was notably cautious, reducing the risk that the OCR needs to increase by more later.
RBNZ Governor Anna Breman emphasized that there is no predetermined path for monetary policy and that the timing of any further rate hike remains highly uncertain, contributing to capping the NZD/USD pair's recent bounce from the 0.5800 mark.
