October 2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal month for altcoins, as several factors align to potentially spark a rally. Bitcoin has risen above $86,000, spot ETFs are seeing steady inflows, and market expectations for an October Fed rate hike have faded. This backdrop is favorable for altcoins, which typically benefit from a stable Bitcoin and cheaper money expectations. The rotation into altcoins has already begun, with Quant surging over 300% in a week and AAVE climbing from $159 to above $180.

Ethereum (ETH) is one of the top altcoins to watch, with a current price around $2,720. The Glamsterdam upgrade, set to launch on the Sepolia testnet on 6 October, could serve as a significant catalyst. This upgrade includes key improvements like enshrined proposer-builder separation and Block-Level Access Lists, which could significantly increase Ethereum's gas-limit capacity. However, the risk remains that upgrade timelines could slip, potentially delaying the mainnet launch until 2027.

Solana (SOL) is trading at roughly $121, nearly 60% below its all-time high. While it lacks a specific October catalyst, Solana's strong on-chain activity and growing ecosystem make it a compelling bet for a broad altcoin recovery. The price of SOL has also performed better in euros than in dollars, highlighting the importance of entry currency. A weekly close above $130 could signal further upside.

Chainlink (LINK) is priced around $11.40, with a strong institutional story but weak price action. As the plumbing behind tokenized finance, Chainlink's network includes major players like the US Department of Commerce and S&P Global Ratings. However, the token's price has decoupled from network adoption, and a surge in fee revenue and staking demand is needed to close this gap.

Sui (SUI) is the momentum pick, trading near $1.23 and up over 60% in a month. The Sui Basecamp 2026 conference on 7 and 8 October could drive further gains, with announcements expected around global payments, stablecoins, and AI-agent transactions. However, past token unlocks and post-conference sell-offs pose risks. A break above $1.34 would confirm the rally's strength.

Aave (AAVE) is trading around $180, with strong on-chain signals and whale activity. Large holders have added significant amounts of AAVE, and renewed DeFi borrowing activity is lifting protocol revenue. As the largest lending market in crypto, AAVE is poised to benefit from any DeFi revival. However, a sharp Bitcoin pullback could trigger liquidations and reverse gains.
