October's Crypto Calendar Packed with Rate Decision, CPI, and Regulatory Catalysts
The month of October is packed with significant events that could impact the price of Bitcoin and the broader digital-asset market. According to Bitfinex analysts, there are at least nine scheduled events that could move Bitcoin, starting with the September jobs report on October 2nd and running through the Federal Reserve's rate decision on October 28th. The Federal Reserve's current target range for interest rates is 3.75% to 4.00%, and the upcoming rate decision will signal whether the Fed is inclined to hike again in December or hold.
The Bitfinex list flags the October 14th Consumer Price Index (CPI) print as the single most significant data point of the month, alongside the Producer Price Index (PPI) and advance retail sales on October 15th, and the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation gauge and advance third-quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimate on October 29th. The XRP Ledger's BatchV1_1 amendment, which enables delivery-versus-payment and bundled settlement use cases on the ledger, could activate around October 9th if validator support holds above the required 80% threshold.
Regulatory and network catalysts will overlap between October 14th and 30th, creating a window of clarity for traders. The Department of the Treasury's proposed regulations implementing Section 3 of the GENIUS Act, covering who may issue payment stablecoins domestically and restrictions on foreign-issued tokens, will close on October 19th, and the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) proposed Regulation Crypto Assets will close on October 20th. Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) in Brazil must file for authorisation with the Banco Central do Brasil by October 30th under Instrução Normativa 739 and Law 14,478/2022.
