Ohio Updates Commercial Law to Allow Crypto Collateral

Share

Ohio has joined a growing list of states updating their commercial law to address digital assets. According to a recent update, the state's ownership laws now permit the use of crypto collateral under certain conditions.

The Ohio legislature passed Senate Bill 229 in June 2026, which amends the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) to include provisions for digital assets. The bill was signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine on June 17, 2026.

Under the new law, digital assets can be used as collateral for commercial loans and other financial transactions. This development is expected to provide greater flexibility and convenience for businesses operating in Ohio.
