Oil Price Drop Triggers Gold Rebound Ahead of US NFP Report
Gold prices are attempting a rebound ahead of the US non-farm payrolls (NFP) report, but it's not the usual caution that's driving sentiment. The real reason behind the improvement in precious metals market sentiment is the drop in crude oil prices.
The fall in oil prices is attributed to a proposed coordinated release of 100 million barrels of crude oil and fuels by European countries and the International Energy Agency (IEA). France has put forth the proposal, which involves supplying 50 million barrels of diesel by European nations and 50 million barrels of crude oil by other IEA member countries. This initiative is a direct response to Washington's pressure on high fuel prices, which are affecting Americans' cost of living ahead of the midterm elections.
The US labor market is expected to show a slowdown in job creation, with market expectations pointing to a reading of 90k, consistent with the ADP report publication. The unemployment rate is expected to rise slightly to 4.17%, up from 4.14%. A drop in energy commodity prices could lower inflation expectations, creating a more favorable environment for precious metals. However, the ultimate direction for gold will be determined by the NFP reading itself.
