Oil Prices Rebound as Nvidia Rises Amid Treasury Yield Surge
Oil prices rebounded to around $106 per barrel for Brent crude and above $94 for WTI as supply risks were reassessed following negotiations between the US and Iran. The rising energy costs, combined with higher Treasury yields, weighed on risk assets, including stocks and cryptocurrencies. This was reflected in the 10-year US Treasury yield briefly exceeding 5.2%. Nvidia, however, rose 1.66% after expanding its buyback program and launching an AI-agent security platform.
The company's board authorized an additional $150 billion in share repurchases, bringing the remaining authorization to approximately $235 billion. The introduction of the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform aims to provide permission management, monitoring, and rapid isolation of unsafe AI agents. This move signals confidence in cash generation and AI demand but will depend on data-center revenue, inference demand, and sustained free-cash-flow growth.
The US economy will be tested by consumer confidence and housing data, with the July S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Home Price Index due on September 29 and the Conference Board's September Consumer Confidence Index following at 22:00. The balance between interest rates and growth remains the primary pricing factor for equities and crypto assets.
