OKX and Intercontinental Exchange file for 24/7 tokenized stock trading platform
OKXICE, a joint venture between the crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange, has taken a significant step by filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch a tokenized securities platform. This platform aims to enable around-the-clock trading of US stocks. According to the filing, more than 60 listed companies will be available for continuous trading throughout the week.
The filing comes just days after the SEC introduced an exemption allowing companies to offer trading in blockchain-based or "tokenized" stocks and other securities. This regulatory move followed the failure of comprehensive cryptocurrency legislation backed by US President Donald Trump to advance in the Senate.
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is co-chair of OKXICE, expressed enthusiasm about the development. In a post on the X social media platform, he stated, "This is a landmark step toward a truly global, 24/7 Wall Street." The initiative is part of a broader trend, as global exchanges like the NYSE, Nasdaq, and the London Stock Exchange are also preparing to launch round-the-clock trading in the coming months.
The push into US stock trading by prediction markets has recently raised regulatory concerns, highlighting the complex landscape of integrating traditional financial systems with blockchain technology.
