OKX and NYSE Parent Plan Tokenized US Stock Trading Platform
OKXICE, a joint venture between cryptocurrency exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the NYSE, has notified the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of its plans to launch a platform for trading tokenized U.S. stocks.
The new venue, operating under the SEC's innovation exemption, will offer permissioned, on-chain trading for more than 60 U.S.-listed companies. Issuers have a 30-day window to opt out if they choose. The platform will support trading for major firms like Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla, and others, including crypto-related companies such as Coinbase, Circle, and Reddit.
This development follows the SEC's recent five-year exemption, which allows certain venues to trade tokenized versions of U.S.-listed stocks without registering as exchanges. Andrew Cuomo, cochair of OKXICE and former New York governor, called the move a 'landmark step' toward a global, 24/7 Wall Street anchored in the U.S. He emphasized the transformative potential of tokenized securities in the digital asset revolution.
Star Xu, founder and CEO of OKX, highlighted that tokenization could make public markets more open, seamless, and always accessible. He emphasized the importance of real ownership and full shareholder rights on-chain as key to the future of markets.
