OKX Money App Offers 10% Stablecoin Yields in Developing Markets
OKX has launched OKX Money, a financial app designed to serve users in developing regions across Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. The app focuses on stablecoin savings and transactions, allowing users to convert over 50 fiat currencies into three US dollar-backed stablecoins: USDG, USDC, and USDT. One of the app's standout features is the ability for eligible account holders to earn up to 10% annual yield on their USDG holdings without any staking or lock-up requirements.
The platform supports various financial activities, including transfers, balance maintenance, and purchases through virtual or physical payment cards. OKX claims that users won't face foreign-exchange fees when spending via their cards. The yield rates are influenced by factors such as the user's average balance, monthly spending volume, and VIP tier status on the main exchange platform. However, OKX has not disclosed the source of the yield funding, which is crucial for users assessing the risk associated with the returns.
OKX Money is part of a broader strategy to expand stablecoin adoption for non-trading purposes, such as cross-border transactions and remittance payments. The app's debut follows a March funding round that valued OKX at $25 billion. The company also recently introduced OKX Shield, a security program offering reimbursement coverage up to $100,000 for unauthorized account access. OKX emphasized that the service will expand gradually, complying with local financial regulations in each territory.
