OKX Money Launches in Emerging Markets With 10% Yield on Stablecoins
OKX, a major crypto exchange, has introduced OKX Money, a new stablecoin savings and payments app targeting emerging markets. The app is now available in parts of Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East, offering some users a yield of up to 10%. Users can fund their accounts with over 50 currencies, which are then converted into dollar-backed stablecoins like USDG, USDC, or USDT. The app also supports sending funds and spending through virtual or physical cards.
The exchange mentioned that the rollout is happening gradually, with each market following local legal and regulatory requirements. While the specific initial launch markets were not disclosed, OKX joined Paxos’s Global Dollar Network in July 2025, allowing users to access USDG for trading and transfers. Cross-border stablecoin flows have surged 77.5% to $220.3 billion in the 12 months ending June 2026, according to Chainalysis.
Qualifying customers can earn an annual percentage yield (APY) of up to 10% on eligible USDG balances without needing to stake or lock up funds. Higher yields are available to users who meet certain thresholds, such as maintaining a 30-day average deposit or achieving a higher Exchange VIP status. However, the exchange did not disclose how the yield is funded.
The launch comes amidst regulatory scrutiny. In the U.S., the GENIUS Act prohibits payment stablecoin issuers from offering interest or yield, while in the European Union, the Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation bars issuers and crypto service providers from granting interest on single-currency stablecoins. Despite these restrictions, stablecoins continue to gain popularity for trade, remittances, and savings.
