OKX Regains Access in South Korea as Google's Enforcement Widens

Share

OKX's Android app returned to the Korean Google Play Store on July 28, making it the first overseas exchange to regain access after being briefly suspended. The app had disappeared from the store on July 24 and remained inaccessible for four days.

This development comes as part of a broader regulatory push in South Korea, where authorities have been cracking down on unregistered virtual asset service providers (VASPs). Google's enforcement has been more extensive than initially thought, with at least 29 overseas crypto exchange apps being restricted on the Korean Google Play Store by July 24.

Of these, 15 exchanges had not been referred to law enforcement by South Korea's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), but were blocked anyway under Google's internal policies. This distinction highlights the complexity of the regulatory landscape and the blurred lines between Google's policy decisions and South Korean authority enforcement.
