OKX Secures Strategic Backing for Financial Services Expansion
OKX, a leading crypto exchange, has attracted new strategic investors, including Circle, Ripple, Qube Research & Technologies (QRT), and SC Ventures. This latest funding round maintains the company's pre-money valuation at $25 billion. OKX aims to expand its services beyond crypto trading, venturing into payments, traditional assets, and other financial services.
The investor group includes key players in stablecoins, payments, and institutional trading. Circle, known for issuing USDC, and Ripple, which offers payment products and the RLUSD stablecoin, are among the notable backers. SC Ventures, the venture arm of Standard Chartered, and QRT, which provides institutional liquidity, are also part of the investment. This strategic backing positions OKX to integrate more closely with traditional finance.
OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) have also launched a joint venture, OKXICE, which aims to offer 24/7 trading in tokenized shares of 63 U.S. companies. The venture has filed with the SEC to bring this innovative service to market. However, the success of tokenized stocks will depend on factors such as liquidity, reliable pricing, and long-term regulatory certainty, as noted by Macquarie.
Ripple is also expanding its blockchain payment activities in Asia, further integrating stablecoins and blockchain settlement into mainstream finance. As OKX builds a broader platform, it will need to demonstrate that users and institutions will adopt its expanded services in regulated financial markets worldwide.
