OKXICE Aims to Launch U.S. Tokenized Stock Trading Platform
OKXICE, a joint venture between OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), has announced plans to launch a tokenized stock trading platform in the U.S. The platform aims to tokenize shares of over 60 U.S.-listed companies, leveraging the SEC's Innovation Exemption framework to create a 24-hour trading environment.
The venture, which notified the SEC of its plans on October 4, intends to combine OKX's blockchain infrastructure with ICE's market technology. This integration seeks to bridge traditional capital markets with on-chain finance. The initial list of tokenized stocks includes major tech firms like Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet, as well as digital-asset companies such as Coinbase, Circle, Robinhood, and others.
Trading on the platform will utilize USDC, USDT, and USDG stablecoins, with each token designed to grant rights equivalent to conventional stock, including dividends and voting rights. The platform will operate through blockchain-based liquidity pools rather than a traditional order book, offering continuous trading, including after-hours and weekends.
Andrew Cuomo, co-chair of OKXICE, highlighted the potential of tokenization, stating that the initiative aims to demonstrate how a 24-hour on-chain market can enhance trading efficiency, accessibility, and global reach. The launch timeline and final list of stocks will depend on the SEC's review process and participation from listed companies.
