O'Leary Predicts Return of CLARITY Act Amid Crypto Tax Bill Advances
Investor Kevin O'Leary believes the CLARITY Act will return to Congress in Q1 of next year, after lawmakers advanced the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act. The CLARITY Act aimed to establish a federal framework for crypto markets, including defined roles for the SEC and CFTC.
O'Leary said the bill's failure in the Senate on September 15 was not a defeat but rather a delay. He expects Congress to revisit the issue once it begins collecting tax revenue from digital asset activities.
The Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act, which advanced through the House Ways and Means Committee, seeks to establish tax rules for staking, mining, small crypto transactions, and broker requirements.
O'Leary argued that taxing a financial activity without a regulatory framework is unsustainable. 'Once you tax, you've got to have policy,' he said.
