O'Leary Sees Bitcoin Peak at $150,000 Amid Institutional Interest
Kevin O'Leary, chairman of O'Leary Ventures and known for his previous skepticism towards Bitcoin, has made a significant pivot in his stance on the cryptocurrency. Speaking at the Avalanche Summit in New York on September 18, he announced that he's actively buying new digital-asset positions and expects Bitcoin to eventually capture a meaningful slice of institutional portfolios.
O'Leary projects a peak price for Bitcoin at $150,000, with a target market cap expansion that would dwarf today's figures. He believes this will happen as regulatory clarity takes shape and major stock exchanges adopt blockchain technology for settlement or trading infrastructure.
He notes that institutions are already showing interest in multiple blockchain platforms, suggesting a future where no single chain dominates. However, he still maintains that Bitcoin and Ethereum together account for roughly 97% of the digital-asset market's total value.
O'Leary emphasizes that regulatory clarity is the single most important catalyst for unlocking large-scale institutional capital flows into crypto. He references the Senate's obstruction of the CLARITY Act as a setback, but notes more encouraging progress on related tax legislation.
