Ondo Finance Launches Platform for Tokenized Private Market Exposure
Ondo Finance is set to launch its Ondo Private Markets platform this week, marking a significant expansion into private equity. The new platform will allow investors to gain exposure to private companies before they go public, starting with a pre-IPO artificial intelligence firm. Ondo Private Markets will offer tokenized notes tied to the economic performance of selected private companies, enabling 24/7 trading on secondary markets.
This move is strategic, as a large portion of major US companies remain privately held, limiting access for retail investors. According to Ondo Finance Acting CEO Ian De Bode, 87% of companies with over $100 million in annual revenue are private, creating a gap in investment opportunities. The platform aims to bridge this gap by providing tokenized exposure to these companies, even before their initial public offerings (IPOs).
Despite the positive development, the ONDO token has not seen a significant price rally. Over the past 24 hours, the token slipped by 0.5%, and on a weekly basis, it dropped by more than 3.5%. However, trading volume increased by 4%, suggesting optimism within the community.
The platform will initially focus on a pre-IPO AI company but plans to expand to other sectors, including robotics, cybersecurity, biotech, and infrastructure. This expansion into private markets represents a new frontier for tokenization, offering investors greater flexibility and liquidity in trading private company assets.
