One Piece Manga Meets Blockchain: Tokenized Copy Hits Market
The Solana-based marketplace Phygitals has tokenized and made available for purchase one of only 118 graded copies of the first issue of the Shonen Jump magazine where One Piece began in 1997. The tokenized manga is now trading onchain, marking a significant milestone in the intersection of collectibles and blockchain.
The original issue of One Piece was published in No. 34 of 1997 and features the debut appearance of the main characters. Due to its relatively low value at the time, most copies were discarded, making this particular graded copy highly sought after by collectors.
Phygitals' tokenized model ensures that buyers can purchase a verified and authenticated copy without having to worry about forgeries or scams. The platform guarantees that every token is backed by an actual physical collectible held in vault custody.
Solana's involvement in this project highlights the growing interest in using blockchain technology to create new markets and opportunities for collectors and enthusiasts. However, some critics argue that the value of a token is only as secure as the custodian holding the underlying asset, which raises concerns about provenance and ownership.
