Open Standard Launches Open USD Stablecoin with Institutional Governance

The Open Standard has launched the Open USD stablecoin on Ethereum, marking a significant shift in the cryptocurrency landscape. Led by Zach Abrams, former co-founder of Bridge, the initiative involves over 140 institutions, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, and BlackRock.

The key difference between Open USD and other stablecoins lies in its governance structure. The core entities, payment networks, banks, and asset management giants, jointly govern an independent entity, distributing reserve earnings to adopters rather than a single issuer.

This collaborative approach reduces the risks of control by a single entity and incentivizes large-scale adoption. As a result, pricing power is transferred from issuers to the adopting ecosystem.
