OpenAI Access Denied: Bitcoin Security Researcher Turns to Chinese AI
A Bitcoin security researcher has been forced to abandon OpenAI's Trust & Cyber capabilities due to restricted access, highlighting concerns over the availability of advanced AI tools for defenders. Rob Hamilton, CEO of AnchorWatch, integrated OpenAI's features into his work on Bitcoin Red Team on Saturday but was denied further access the following morning.
Hamilton expressed his disappointment, stating 'It absolutely guts me as a patriotic American to have to do this, but I will be going back to using Chinese open source models to conduct my research to protect Bitcoin infrastructure.'
The Bitcoin Red Team uses AI tools and human review to scan hundreds of open-source repositories for vulnerabilities. The group's efforts accelerated after the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which resulted in over $100 million in stolen Bitcoin.
