OpenAI Unveils Independent AI Assistant 'Dots' Amid Safety Concerns

OpenAI's latest innovation, 'dots,' is an AI assistant capable of executing tasks independently without constant human supervision. CEO Sam Altman described dots as 'remarkably capable' digital helpers that can manage a wide range of user-delegated responsibilities.

Dots operates on dedicated cloud infrastructure and integrates with over 4,000 different applications using OpenAI's proprietary GPT-6 Astra framework. Users can interact with their dots through various channels, including ChatGPT, Slack, or Microsoft Teams.

OpenAI is initially making dots available to Pro and Business Premium ChatGPT subscribers, while Enterprise, Education, and Healthcare tier users can participate in beta testing once their workspace administrators enable the feature.

The company postponed releasing its latest model due to safety concerns discovered during internal evaluations. This marks another instance of OpenAI halting a product launch due to safety considerations, echoing similar delays by competitor Anthropic.
