Optimism Governance Considers Upgrade Proposal to Boost Cross-Chain Verification
Optimism Governance is considering a major upgrade to its OP Stack fault-proof architecture. The proposal, known as Upgrade Proposal 20, introduces Super Root Dispute Games, which will support cross-chain verification and interoperability across the wider Superchain.
The introduction of Super Roots is necessary due to the expansion of the OP Stack across multiple chains. As the network grows, proving the state of one rollup is no longer sufficient; instead, it's essential to reason about state across several chains at once.
Super Root Dispute Games aim to provide a shared representation that can be challenged through fault-proof mechanisms. If executed, this change would move the OP Stack closer to a model where cross-chain state can be verified with the same adversarial principles used in rollup fault proofs.
