Optimism Prepares for Glamsterdam Hardfork with Crucial op-node Update
Optimism has released op-node v1.19.8, a crucial update for sequencer operators to prepare for the upcoming Glamsterdam hardfork on October 6. This update is particularly important for operators using the --l2.follow.source setting, as it fetches a newly observed Ethereum layer 1 block and its receipts before the chain needs them as its origin. If the early fetch fails, the node issues a warning and uses its normal fetch process.
The release also includes a change that rejects certain invalid hardfork schedules in custom rollup configurations. This means that if a custom configuration fails validation due to an invalid hardfork schedule, it will be rejected. However, it's worth noting that no chain in the embedded Superchain registry is affected by this change.
The update is especially relevant for Sepolia OP Stack operators, who need to have at least op-node v1.19.5 installed before the Glamsterdam hardfork. While op-node v1.19.8 is recommended, it is not mandatory for every operator.
