Optimism Reborn as OP Mainnet Aims for Scalable Ethereum Ecosystem
OP Mainnet is the new name for Optimism, a Layer-2 network that uses Optimistic Rollups to scale Ethereum applications.
The move aims to reflect the project's goal of creating a 'superchain' network of many Layer 2 blockchains.
With approximately $1.3 billion in total value locked (TVL), OP Mainnet enables quicker and less expensive transaction processing through Optimistic Rollups, which address scalability issues in Ethereum.
OP Labs, the developer of OP Mainnet, operates a development software stack called the OP Stack, allowing developers to launch their own Layer 2 blockchains. For instance, Coinbase is developing its own layer-2 blockchain, Base, using the OP Stack, while BNB Chain recently announced a layer-2 chain built using the same technology.
