Oracle Slumps on Force Majeure Filing for Delayed Project Jupiter Data Center
Oracle's Project Jupiter AI data center in New Mexico has hit a snag. The tech giant filed a force majeure declaration, which protects it from financial obligations if the facility fails to launch by its scheduled 2028 target.
The move sent Oracle's shares down approximately 4%, while Blue Owl Capital and Bloom Energy declined by 4% and 6%, respectively.
At issue is a critical natural gas pipeline required for the project, which has been postponed until February 2027. The delay is due to New Mexico State Land Office's continued rejection of right-of-way authorization across state trust territories, with community leaders and environmental advocacy organizations opposing the project.
The force majeure declaration was filed by Oracle to safeguard itself from potential penalties if the data center misses its deadline. The company asserts that 'Project Jupiter remains on our planned schedule,' but the legal filing indicates genuine concern about meeting the established timeline.
