Orionx Shuts Down Amid $7M Custody Shortfall

Share

Tether-backed Chilean crypto exchange Orionx has halted operations due to a $7 million custody shortfall. A forensic audit revealed that customer assets had been transferred to wallets not under company control.

The firm notified the Public Prosecutor's Office of Chile and filed a criminal complaint against former executives Roberto Zibert and Joaquín Díaz, alleging they were involved in the disputed transactions.

Orionx temporarily suspended customer withdrawals to ensure equal treatment during the closure. The company also prioritizes recovering as many customer assets as possible through its Closure and Asset Restitution Plan.

The Financial Market Commission (CMF) of Chile stated that Orionx is not registered or authorized by the Fintech Law in Chile, further complicating the situation.
