OUSD Stablecoin Launched with $1 Billion in Liquidity from Major Backers
OUSD is a US dollar stablecoin issued by Bridge, which is owned by Stripe. It was launched on September 30, 2026, on several blockchain platforms including Base, Ethereum, Solana, and Tempo.
The stablecoin's ownership structure is unique, with five founding partners - Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa - having committed over $1 billion to build liquidity. The partners have an equal initial equity stake in Open Standard, the company that governs OUSD.
OUSD works through a mint-and-burn mechanism, where new tokens are created when dollars come in and existing tokens are destroyed when dollars go out. Businesses can mint and redeem OUSD 1:1 with the US dollar without any fees through partnerships with Stripe, Mastercard, Visa, and Coinbase.
Chainlink is the official data oracle for OUSD, providing outside data to smart contracts. The stablecoin has also partnered with Pi Network to explore rewards programs for its users. OUSD is designed to hold a value of $1, competing in a market worth over $300 billion dominated by Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC.
